PRESS RELEASE: Business Excellence Awards 2006
Llangorse Multi Activity Centre takes National Business Excellence Awards held at the Hilton Hotel London.
The Llangorse Multi Activity Centre were delighted to win the Sports and Leisure category and topped the evening off by wining the overall sector trophy along with a scholarship presented by the Savoy Educational Trust to the value of £1,750
This family run centre is one of Wales most progressive activity centres. In the past six month they won the welsh National Tourism Award and the most converted Worldwide Small Business Award.
Activities at the centre both indoors and outside are unique and many cannot be found elsewhere in Britain.
The indoor centre is an extension of the existing activities the Thomas Family have controlled for the past fifty years. The business started as a farming enterprise and soon realised there was a need to diversify. At the time diversification in the farming world was not the thing to do and help and guidance was non-existent, in fact complete opposition from the local farming community and the farming unions. For many years the business continued to grow and thoughts for new ways to keep the customers happy and make sure they returned was always in mind. New innovative activities were provided along with, facilities such as accommodation (hotel, guest house, bunkhouses, camping), restaurants, and Welsh Food Centre.
The Indoor Activity Centre was constructed in redundant farm buildings as a result of BSE in the Bull Beef Unit. The brainchild of Kevin Thomas a conservation minded young man with an innovative mind.
Having been involved in a range of outdoor activities he was well aware of the damage done to the environment by badly trained and novice enthusiasts pursuing climbing related activities unsupervised. This in turn prompted the need for indoor facilities that allowed the public an opportunity to experience and train on natural rock in a safe and controlled indoor centre.
The centre has continued to grow and provide new innovative activities outside and adjacent to the indoor centre, again in a controlled environment with safety and training been the main objective. Some of the outdoor activities include, Dingle Scramble, Multi level Challenge Course and finally Sky Trek a new and extremely exciting activity.
